Out with the Old, and in with the New in Glasgow City Centre
Wednesday 23 November, 2016
16,000 lucky ballot winners gathered in Glasgow’s George Square on Sunday Night to view the City’s outstanding new festive display. Following the big ‘switch-on’, guests were treated to a fantastic firework display, set on the roof of the City Chambers.
Glasgow’s previous Christmas decorations had been unchanged for a whopping 25 years! So, much to the city’s delight, a sparkling new infrastructure has been put in place for 2016. The new display features around 250,000 individual lights, 10 giant Christmas trees, 100 snowflakes, as well as 13,000 individual lights decorating the famous Walter Scott Monument.
This year's ballot for tickets resulted in almost 57,000 applications requesting a massive 272,830 tickets. With only 16,000 tickets available, the demand could’ve filled George Square more than 16 times over, with more than 140,000 applications coming from Glasgow residents, and the remaining 132,700 applications coming from outwith the City.
Field and Lawn’s Scottish team carried out the installation, everything was completed in time for the big event, as well as playing a key role in the logistics and delivery of the event itself.
Our teams are working tirelessly, up and down the country, to ensure Christmas lights ‘switch-on’ events run without a hitch. Make sure to follow us on Facebook, as we’ll be sharing photos of our installations throughout November and December.
